San Ildefonso, or La Granja, or La Granja de San Ildefonso, is a town and municipality in the province of Segovia, Spain, situated 34 miles (54 km) northwest of Madrid. The population as of the 2008 census was 5,637. Philip V built a splendid palace - La Granja — in the town in 1721-1724. It has been called "the Versailles of Spain".
On 12 August 1836 at La Granja, some of the Liberal leaders compelled Queen Christina to sign a decree restoring the Constitution of 1812.
The palace is in a restrained baroque style surrounded by extensive gardens in the French manner and sculptural fountains. It is now open to the public as a museum.
Thanks very much for viewing.
